20,000 personnel deployed for by-elections security: IG Punjab
LAHORE, Nov 23 (APP/DNA):Punjab Police is on high alert on the occasion of by-elections being held in national and provincial constituencies on Sunday.

Inspector General (IG) Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar said that more than 20,000 police officers and personnel have been deployed to ensure the security of the by-elections. He emphasized that the safe conduct of the elections will provide a peaceful environment for voters to exercise their right to vote.

In a statement issued here, Dr. Usman Anwar added that there is zero tolerance for violations of the Election Commission’s code of conduct, Section 144, and the arms ban. Full security is being provided to voters and Election Commission staff at 939 male, 889 female, and 964 joint polling stations. Out of a total of 2,792 polling stations, 408 have been declared highly sensitive and 1,032 sensitive.

He said that CCTV cameras have been installed at all polling stations, with continuous monitoring taking place. The polling process is being overseen from the Central Police Office, Safe Cities Authority, and the control and monitoring rooms of the districts. An election security plan covering logistics, communication, and transportation has been prepared in coordination with relevant institutions.

The IG Punjab assured that any attempts by terrorists, miscreants, or anti-national elements to disturb peace would be foiled. Personnel from Punjab Constabulary, PHP, Elite, SPU, and Training Branch are deployed for election security duties. Female police personnel are assigned to ladies’ polling stations and booths.

He further stated that the Punjab Police is receiving full support from the Rangers and Pakistan Army, with all formations, including the Dolphin Squad, Special Branch, and CTD, actively participating in election security operations.
