ISLAMABAD, NOV 17 /DNA/ – The High Commissioner of Malaysia, Dato’ Azhar Bin Mazlan, formally launched the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign at a grand ceremony held in Islamabad, calling Pakistan an important partner in promoting tourism, cultural exchange, and people-to-people linkages. The event brought together a distinguished gathering of diplomats, including all Heads of Missions of ASEAN countries, the Dean of the African Group and Ambassador of Morocco, H.E. Mohammad Karmoune, and the Ambassador of Yemen, among others — reflecting the growing global interest in Malaysia’s tourism revival plan.

Speaking at the ceremony, High Commissioner Dato’ Azhar Bin Mazlan announced Malaysia’s ambitious target of welcoming 35 million tourists in 2026, describing the initiative as one of the most significant tourism drives in Malaysia’s history. He said the country was preparing to showcase its unparalleled cultural richness, modern infrastructure, and breathtaking natural beauty to the world.

He recalled that during Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif’s recent visit to Malaysia, both sides signed a key Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote and develop tourism cooperation, opening new avenues for joint ventures, tourism training, investment in hospitality, and enhanced travel connectivity. “Pakistan is an important brotherly nation for Malaysia, and we want to deepen our tourism partnership in a mutually beneficial way,” he said.

Dato’ Azhar highlighted Malaysia’s unique multicultural identity, home to ethnic Malays, Chinese, Indians, and many other groups who live together harmoniously. “Malaysia is truly Asia,” he said, referring to the iconic slogan that has made Malaysia one of the world’s most recognizable tourism brands. “Our diversity is our strength — reflected in our culture, lifestyle, festivals, and especially our cuisine.”

In a lighter moment that earned smiles from the audience, the High Commissioner mentioned the viral video of former US President Donald Trump being welcomed in Malaysia. “On President Trump’s arrival, traditional Malaysian songs were played — and he danced to their rhythm. That clip went viral and has been viewed by more than 50 million people worldwide,” he said. “It shows the magnetic appeal of Malaysian arts, culture, and hospitality.”

He emphasized that he was in Pakistan not only as a diplomat but also as a tourism ambassador for his country. “I am here to promote Malaysia,” he declared. “I warmly invite the Pakistani people to visit and experience the beauty of Malaysia — from world-class natural heritage and pristine beaches to vibrant modern cities, shopping destinations, and an extraordinary culinary landscape.”

During the event, diplomats and guests were briefed on Malaysia’s offerings, including eco-tourism, adventure tourism, cultural sites, theme parks, and modern transport networks. The High Commissioner assured that Malaysia would continue facilitating Pakistani travellers through visa-friendly initiatives and enhanced airline connectivity.

The event concluded with cultural performances, videos highlighting Malaysia’s scenic destinations, and interactive sessions between Malaysian officials and Pakistani travel industry representatives.

The launch of Visit Malaysia 2026 in Islamabad marks another step in strengthening bilateral ties, promising new opportunities for tourism, business cooperation, and cultural engagement between the two brotherly nations.
