5,000 homes built for flood victims in Balochistan

Quetta, AUG 6: The federal government has completed the construction of 5,000 houses for families affected by devastating floods in Balochistan, marking a major step forward in the country’s post-disaster recovery efforts.

Work on an additional 27,000 homes is currently in progress as part of the Balochistan Housing Reconstruction Programme.

Long-term housing for climate-affected families
Launched under the Ministry of Planning, Development & Special Initiatives, the reconstruction initiative aims to provide secure, sustainable, and dignified housing to communities displaced by catastrophic monsoon rains and floods.

According to ministry officials, the housing units are not just shelter — they are designed to be climate-resilient and equipped with basic facilities to ensure long-term stability for residents.

The program was initiated on the directions of Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, who has emphasized that the rehabilitation process must be grounded in human dignity, transparency, and sustainability.

A spokesperson for the ministry stated, “This project reflects our commitment to building back better and creating a future where disaster-hit families can thrive, not just survive.”

Participatory and transparent execution
On-ground execution is being led by the Balochistan Housing Reconstruction Unit (BHRU), which has engaged local communities throughout the process.

Using a participatory approach, the unit has ensured that the designs and implementation align with local needs while adhering to technical standards and ensuring transparency in fund utilization.
