Prime Minister’s Kamyab Jawan Programme to Join Hands with UNICEF-GenU for the Socio-Economic Development of Youth
Islamabad, 21 November: Mr. Muhammad Usman Dar, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Youth Affairs chaired a meeting of UNICEF Pakistan led by its country representative, Ms. Aida Girma, to explore avenues of cooperation between Prime Minister’s Kmyab Jawan Programme and UNICEF-Generation Unlimited (GenU) for the welfare of Pakistani youth.
Mr Usman Dar and Ms. Aida Girma exchanged views on Prime Minister’s Kamyab Jawan Programme, a flagship initiative of the Government for the socio-economic development of youth, and the international Generation Unlimited partnership platform of UNICEF respectively. Earlier the two sides met at a consultation led by the Federal Minister for Education, Mr. Shafqat Mehmood, to establish a GenU partnership platform in Pakistan to add value to the country’s efforts for adolescents and youth.
Prime Minister launched Kamyab Jawan Programme in October 2019. It has six initiatives aimed at empowering and engaging youth through subsidized business loans, skills development, grants for startups, internships, and eco-innovation. These initiatives will be connected to a Youth Card scheme which will allow active youth to get health, travel, education and other incentives against their positive contribution to the society.
Generation Unlimited (GenU) is a global partnership launched at the UN in September 2018 working to prepare young people to become productive and engaged citizens. It connects secondary-age education and training to employment and entrepreneurship, empowering every young person to thrive in the world of work. GenU brings together public and private partners – and young people – to identify and scale solutions, unlock investments, and empower all young people to play a positive role in their societies. It focuses on adolescent girls and boys, young men and women and all young people, especially those in the greatest danger of being left behind – girls, the poor, young people with disabilities, young people on the move, and young people affected by conflict and natural disasters.
Kamyab Jawan Program and UNICEF vowed to foster partnerships in the field of skills development and employment for the development of youth in Pakistan. The two sides agreed on the need for introducing life skills at a younger age so that a stronger human capital could be prepared.
Mr. Muhammad Usman Dar appreciated the efforts of UNICEF, and assured them that Prime Minister’s Kamyab Jawan Programme, as one of the key partners, would contribute to the GenU platform to create an effective impact for the socio-economic development of youth in the country.
