FIA denied physical remand of Pervaiz Elahi in money laundering case

LAHORE, JUN 26 (DNA) — A judicial magistrate in Lahore on Monday rejected the physical remand of former Punjab chief minister Pervaiz Elahi to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in the money laundering case and sent him to jail on judicial remand.

Judicial Magistrate Ghulam Murtaza Virk issued the verdict. “There is no need for physical remand in this case. Therefore, the court orders to send Pervaiz Elahi to jail,” he ordered. It is to be noted here that the FIA had demanded the physical remand of Pervaiz Elahi from the court in the money laundering case.

Earlier on Monday, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has again arrested former Punjab chief minister and PTI President Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi in a money laundering case. Pervaiz has been taken into custody from outside the Camp Jail.

The FIA has already registered a case against his third wife Saira Anwar, who, the Agency alleges, has committed corruption of billions of rupees and then laundered the money abroad.     The FIA officials have said that former chief minister will be presented in court on Monday. Just a day ago, the ex-chief minister was granted bail in the money laundering case.

Earlier on Monday, Federal Investigation Agency’s anti-money laundering team had arrested former Punjab chief minister and PTI President Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi’s gunman Chaudhry Muhammad Zaman, who also worked as Pervaiz’s cash boy.

Zaman was allegedly also the business partner of ex-chief minister’s wife Sara Anwar. Police had also arrested Zaman in February 2023 when he was allegedly supplying wine to Sara. The FIA has said it has obtained important evidence by conducting the forensic of Zaman’s cellphone. — DNA
