PDM, state institutions pursuing one-point agenda to dismantle PTI: Spokesperson

Stresses high time all stakeholders need to sit together to devise a policy to tackle monster of terrorism

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) expressed shock over the unprecedented upsurge in the tragic incidents of terrorism in the country and added that even then, the PDM government and entire state machineries were pursuing one-point agenda to dismantle PTI rather than to reining in the monster of terrorism, which was rearing its ugly head again.

PTI spokesperson stressed the need that it was a high time, the incumbent government and the state institutions should reconsider their priorities and all political forces should set-aside their political differences so as to devise a well-thought-out strategy to deal with the menace of terrorism once and for all.

He said that the entire nation was in great shock and saddened by the loss of precious lives in the tragic Bajaur blast.

He stated that Pakistani nation sacrificed thousands of precious lives to eradicate the scourge of terrorism and restore peace in the country.

However, he noted that an alarming uptick in terrorist incidents was witnessed during the last one year, which reflected the wrong and flawed priorities of the incumbent government.

The PTI spokesperson said that a total of 636 incidents of terrorism were reported from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa alone in the last one year, adding that the provinces of KP and Balochistan were badly affected by the new spate of terrorism, putting a serious question mark on the PDM government’s strategy in dealing with terrorism.

He expressed shock that the government did not even seem to be serious about the problem of terrorism, as no tangible and practical measures were taken to keep the hard-won peace and normalcy during the PTI era intact.

PTI spokesperson stressed the need that it was high time to set aside all political and personal differences and re-determine and reshape their priorities to turn tide on the terrorism.

However, he saddened that contrary to it, all the state resources were being used against the biggest party in the country, as they all were pursuing one-point agenda to destroy PTI, as the law enforcement agencies were busy raiding the houses of PTI leaders in total disregard of the unabated terrorist incidents.

PTI spokesperson went on to say that national security situation started deteriorating gradually as menace of terrorism was remerging after the removal of the PTI government, because the PDM government adopted an irresponsible and non-serious attitude to the terrorism since the day one and totally ignored the issue.

He recalled that during PTI’s tenure, very effective efforts were made in cooperation with the international community to ensure lasting peace and stability. However, he added that the PDM government missed a golden opportunity to check the terrorism when Taliban took charge of government in Afghanistan.

PTI Spokesman stated that PTI government called a special meeting of the OIC for peace and order in Afghanistan, in which international organizations and foreign ministers of the world were invited.

He continued that owing to PTI government these efforts, the Taliban government was ready to provide support to Pakistan to help end the menace of terrorism.

PTI spokesperson further stated that according to experts, terrorism witnessed 52 to 53 percent increase in the year 2022, which was alarming and added that PTI repeatedly pointed out the fast deteriorating security situation, but in return, PTI leadership and workers were subjected to more torture and implicated in more false, fabricated and politically-motivated cases.

He said that whoever raised voice against the issue of terrorism was silenced and no step was taken for the improvement of the security situation, adding that the security situation at Pak-Afghan border remained fragile despite spending billions of rupees on the building of the security fence, and the terrorists were even able to carry out attacks in the federal capital as well.

PTI spokesperson said that instead of formulating and devising an effective strategy to combat terrorism, the government started using these terrorist incidents as a justification to delay the general elections.

He stated that the tragic Bajaur bombing was a reminder to draw the attention of the people in power to the issue of national security and peace and stability, adding that the government and state institutions needed to immediately revise their strategy regarding law and order.

PTI spokesperson went on to say that at this time, all institutions and parties would have to work together for the sake of counter-terrorism.

He stated that the government should give up its efforts to push the PTI against the wall and give serious thought to the real issue of rising terrorism.

PTI spokesperson warned that the situation could turn more serious if immediate attention was given, adding that Pakistan was already reeling under economic woes and it could not internal instability, as it could prove disastrous for the country.
