PM KAKAR MEETS PRESIDENT PUTIN

Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar meets Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of 3rd Belt and Road Forum, Beijing, 17 October 2023.

Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar ul Haq Kakar held a meeting today with President Vladimir Putin of the Russian Federation, on the margins of Third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation being held in Beijing.

The two leaders reviewed bilateral cooperation with a special focus on trade, investment and energy and expressed satisfaction with the steady expansion of Pakistan-Russia relations. They also discussed the prospects of enhancing Eurasian connectivity and Pakistan’s pivotal role in regional integration through rail, road and energy corridors.

Prime Minister Kakar stressed the need for enhanced regional integration for economic development of the entire region and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to further expanding and strengthening bilateral cooperation with Russia in the areas of trade & investment, energy, connectivity and counterterrorism.

The leaders also exchanged views on regional and global developments, including the evolving situation in the Middle East.

This year, Pakistan and Russia are commemorating the 75th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations

EARLIER, Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar met with President Ranil Wickremesinghe of Sri Lanka today. The two leaders fondly recalled the close and cordial relations and immense goodwill between the people of the two countries.

The Prime Minister emphasized the need to work together to fight poverty and promote economic growth and development for benefit of the entire region. He also expressed his desire to promote peace and enhance connectivity through regional cooperation.

While noting that Pakistan and Sri Lanka were facing broadly similar economic challenges, the two leaders exchanged notes on this important subject. They agreed that the concerned authorities on both sides will remain in contact to exchange experiences and best practices in areas such as privatization of State-Owned Enterprises.

The President of Sri Lanka thanked the Prime Minister for conveying warm sentiments on behalf of the government and the people of Pakistan. The leaders agreed to further strengthen bilateral ties and continue the long-standing cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
