US envoy discusses Afghan refugees with in meeting with foreign minister

ISLAMABAD, Dec 07 (DNA): US Special Envoy for Afghanistan Thomas West
arrived in Islamabad Thursday as part of his four-nation tour to discuss
the situation in Afghanistan and the resettlement of Afghan refugees.

He was received by US Ambassador to Pakistan and US Embassy officials at
the airport.

West visited the Foreign Office and met with Caretaker Foreign Minister
Jalil Abbas Jilani.

They discussed the improvement of Pakistan-US relations, the security
and humanitarian situation in Afghanistan, and the safe and effective
migration and protection of eligible Afghan refugees.

West also discussed the deportation of illegal Afghan nationals to
Afghanistan, sources said. He is expected to meet officials of UNHCR,
IOM, International Committee of the Red Cross during his visit. He may
also possibly meet with Afghan refugees, the sources said.

West will continue his Pakistan tour till December 9, sources said. He
is the second of the three US delegations that visited Pakistan in
December, sources said.

He will also travel from Pakistan to UAE, Saudi Arabia and Qatar,
sources said. His four-nation tour will continue until December 15,
sources said.
