ISLAMABAD, FEB 11: The Ministry of Energy has submitted a request to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) seeking a hike of Rs 4.40 per unit in electricity prices for the upcoming three months.

This proposal was presented in Islamabad, highlighting that the adjustment would occur quarterly, imposing an additional burden of Rs 82 billion on electricity consumers nationwide.

NEPRA is scheduled to hear the application on February 14th, 2024. This hearing will be crucial in determining the final outcome and potential impact on consumer bills.

In the application, the Ministry of Energy specified that various electric supply companies, including Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) and Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO), have individually requested increases totaling billions of rupees.

Faisalabad Electric Supply Company sought an increase of Rs 9.44 billion, while Peshawar Electric Supply Company proposed an increase of Rs 11.60 billion. Additionally, the Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO) has requested a hike of Rs 15 billion.
