KARACHI, May 03 (APP):Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi has directed all Deputy Commissioners to adopt measures to protect citizens from the heatwave as predicted by the Meteorological Department.

He issued such directives during a meeting held at the Commissioner’s office to review steps being taken to face the upcoming heatwave in the Metropolitan city.

Given the expected heat wave, it was decided to establish cold water fountains (Sabeels) across the city and activate Heat Stroke centers.

The Commissioner said that the administration will have to adopt emergency measures to protect people from the heatwave spell as per reports issued by the Met office.

Given the 2015 heatwave tragedy, it was decided that all required measures must be adopted to face any emergency.

The Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfraz briefed the meeting regarding the expected heatwave in the city and informed that the weather will turn very hot from May 6 to 8 and people should avoid moving outside while the administration must operationalize Heat Stroke centers to protect citizens from such harsh weather condition.

The meeting decided that the Meteorological Department should issue a heatwave alert with preventive advisory three days before the expected date while all city hospitals to take measures to provide treatment facilities to heatwave victims.

The commissioner asked K Electric management to ensure uninterrupted power supply to Heat Stroke centers to work properly.

Naqvi hoped that all concerned departments and hospitals would adopt prior steps to face any untoward situation during the Heatwave period.

The meeting also decided that in all KMC hospitals, JPMC, and Civil Hospital special arrangements would be made along with the setting up of special wards for heatwave affectees.
