Finance Minister chairs meeting on state-owned enterprises

ISLAMABAD, MAY 20 /DNA/ – Today, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, the Federal Minister for Finance & Revenue, led a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on State-Owned Enterprises (CCoSOEs) at the Finance Division.

The meeting included several ministers and senior officials:

  • Minister for Housing & Works, Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada
  • Minister for Power, Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari
  • Minister for Maritime Affairs, Mr. Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh
  • Minister for Economic Affairs, Mr. Ahad Khan Cheema
  • Chairman of the SECP (Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan)
  • Federal Secretaries and other senior officers from relevant ministries

Key decisions made during the meeting:

  1. Power Division Proposal: Approved the nomination of independent directors for certain electricity distribution companies, to be submitted to the cabinet.
  2. Ministry of Railways Proposal: Rejected the proposal to classify four Railway companies as strategic and essential. Instead, the committee requested a transformation plan for these companies.
  3. Ministry of Science and Technology Proposal: Deferred the proposal and asked for a business plan for STEDEC reforms.
  4. Ministry of Information & Broadcasting Proposal: Approved the proposal recognizing the strategic importance of Pakistan Television Corporation (PTVC) and Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation (PBC). The committee directed the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting to present a business plan for better management of these enterprises.
