Pakistan expresses deep sorrow over loss of pilgrims in Iran bus accident

ISLAMABAD,AUG 21(DNA): The Foreign Office has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss of Pakistani pilgrims in a recent bus accident in Iran.

The spokesperson for the Foreign Office extended heartfelt condolences and sympathies to the families of the deceased, who were primarily residents of Sindh province.

In response to the tragedy, spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar has taken swift action, instructing the Pakistani consulate to assess the situation on the ground. The consul general has been tasked with providing immediate medical assistance to those injured in the accident, she updated.

The deputy PM has also issued directives to ensure the prompt repatriation of the deceased back to Pakistan. In line with these orders, the Crisis Management Unit has been activated to oversee and facilitate the process. 

The Pakistani ambassador and consulate in Zahedan are in constant communication with Iranian authorities to coordinate the necessary arrangements.

The Foreign Office reassured the public that all possible measures are being taken to support the affected families during this difficult time and to bring the remains of the deceased back home as quickly as possible.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Iran Mudassir shared that 28 Pakistani pilgrims were killed and 23 injured in the Yazd bus accident. “I have no words to express grief but I can assure that I will do my very best for repatriation of those who passed away,” he shared on his official X account.

He further said that an embassy officer in Zahedan was overseeing emergency arrangements and that he was in touch with the Iranian government and the Yazd mayor’s office for crucial arrangements.

The ambassador also shared a list of 17 out of the 28 deceased Pakistani nationals whose remains had been identified. Another list was shared of the pilgrims injured in the bus accident.
