ISLAMABAD, SEP 18 (DNA) : The Election Commission of Pakistan has approved the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) request for some time to submit record in the party’s intra-party election case. The commission then adjourned hearing in the case till October 2.

The Election Commission of Pakistan heard the PTI intra-party election case, where party Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan sought 10 days to submit the record. A member of the commission said to Barrister Gohar that “it is good that you said God willing you will submit the record”.

The commission asked Gohar where the intra-party elections were held. He replied that they conducted elections in all four provinces and Islamabad. The ECP’s member from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa asked the PTI chairman to suppose they did not recognize the PTI’s intra-party elections, then under the Elections Act, the party can be banned for five years.

The member asked what action the commission can take on the PTI not conducting intra-party elections. Barrister Gohar said they can fully assist the commission on this matter.

Speaking to the media after the hearing, Gohar said the PTI conducted the best intra-party elections in all four provinces and Islamabad, and elected the chairman, secretary general, and four presidents. “Nobody objected to the intra-party election,” he remarked.

He said the election commission had asked constitutional and legal questions in its letter, but not raised any objections. In the reserved seats case, the election commission itself submitted the documents, adding that its comments regarding the PTI structure were wrong. “We filed the reply to the election commission’s questions in the Supreme Court,” he added.
