ISLAMABAD, SEP 23 (DNA) : Former Federal Minister Fawad Chaudhry has called for the immediate issuance of a notification appointing Justice Mansoor Ali Shah as Supreme Court Chief Justice.

Speaking to the media outside the Islamabad High Court, Chaudhry stated that lawyers were united against the constitutional amendment.

He warned that if Justice Mansoor Ali Shah’s notification was not issued, a long march would be organised.

He urged the lawyers, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI), Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA), and Jamaat-e-Islami to join the march.

He described the attempt to bring about a constitutional amendment as alarming. He reiterated that lawyers and political parties must take action against it.

Chaudhry cautioned that if the amendment was enacted, it would cause irreparable damage to the constitution.

He claimed that the current assemblies were a constituted on Form 47 and did not represent the people.

He emphasised that the Supreme Court’s orders were continuously ignored by the relative authorities.
