Quetta, 4 Oct /DNA/ – The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), with support from the European Union under its Deliver Justice Project, organized a concluding workshop on investigators-prosecutors coordination in Quetta on October 4. This initiative is part of wider efforts aimed at bolstering cooperation between the law enforcement and prosecution services in Balochistan.
The workshop, attended by a cross-section of participants from the Balochistan Police, Levies, and Prosecution Department, addressed key challenges that prevent effective collaboration during criminal investigations and trials. Building upon previous successful engagements, it aimed to solidify a joint platform for investigators from police and levies, and prosecutors to work together seamlessly, ultimately leading to fairer and more efficient trials.
The highlight of the workshop was the endorsement of a newly developed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), designed to formalize the coordination between police and levies investigators and prosecutors prior to the submission of a challan. The SOPs provide a crucial framework to ensure that investigations are comprehensive and that cases are prepared with the highest standards of legal scrutiny, paving the way for smoother prosecution processes.
This workshop is the culmination of a series of training initiatives undertaken over the past two years across the province, including in Gwadar, Naseerabad, and Quetta. Each of these efforts has contributed to improving institutional cooperation, as the concluding workshop marking a milestone in formalizing a sustainable partnership between the police, levies and prosecution services in Balochistan.
