India set record T20I total with blistering 297-6 against Bangladesh

Hyderabad, OCT 12: India recorded the highest T20 International total by a Test-playing nation on Saturday, scoring 297-6 against Bangladesh in Hyderabad.

This impressive feat has not only surpassed Afghanistan’s previous record of 278-3 against Ireland in 2019 but also marked the second-highest total in T20 history, following Nepal’s 314-3 against Mongolia at last year’s Asian Games.

Opener Sanju Samson stole the spotlight with a dazzling century, scoring 111 runs off just 47 balls. His innings included 11 fours and eight sixes, showcasing his explosive batting prowess.

Samson achieved his first T20 international century in just 40 balls, notably hammering leg-spinner Rishad Hossain for five consecutive sixes in a single over.

Samson’s remarkable performance laid the foundation for a mammoth total, aided by a solid partnership with skipper Suryakumar Yadav, who contributed 75 runs off 35 balls. Their collaboration saw India accumulate an impressive 173 runs for the second wicket.

Despite losing Samson to Mustafizur Rahman, who was met with a standing ovation from the weekend crowd, India’s onslaught continued. Hardik Pandya added a quickfire 47 runs off 18 balls, while Riyan Parag chipped in with 34 runs off just 13 balls.
