ISLAMABAD: The High Commission of Malaysia in Islamabad organised a Sports Day on the High Commission’s premises. The event was held in conjunction with Malaysia’s National Sports Day, or Hari Sukan Negara (HSN).

Ambassador Dato’ Mohammad Azhar Mazlan, the High Commissioner of Malaysia to Pakistan, officiated the event at 7:15 a.m. In his remarks, the High Commissioner underscored the importance of a balanced and healthy lifestyle. He also highlighted the role of sports diplomacy in fostering closer relations between Malaysia and Pakistan. The event was attended by the High Commission’s Home-Based Staff and their families, as well as local Pakistani staff members.

The main feature of this year’s event was a 3.0 km brisk walk around the Diplomatic Enclave. Cricket games were also introduced this year, adding to the lineup of sports activities that included aerobics, badminton, and table tennis. Malaysian delicacies, such as Mee Goreng, and local Pakistani breakfast items, like Nihari, were also served during the programme.

National Sports Day is celebrated annually not only throughout Malaysia but also at its missions abroad every October. The main objective is to promote and instill the spirit of a healthy lifestyle among Malaysians, young and old, by emphasizing the importance of regular exercise and uniting Malaysians from all walks of life through sports.
