GUJRAT: The federal government has granted a formal approval for the establishment of the first-ever women chamber of commerce in Gujrat.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 3 of the Trade Organisation Act 2013 the federal government’s ministry of commerce, has granted licence to Gujrat Women Chamber of Commerce of Commerce and Industry to represent the commerce, trade, industry and service sectors of Gujrat region,” reads a notification.
“This chamber aims to empower women socially and particularly economically which can only be done through a proper platform which has been achieved,” said a senior official of Gujrat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GtCCI) while talking to Dawn here on Saturday.
He said at least 130 women entrepreneurs had become the members of the women chamber and as per the notification of DGTO, at least 16 members of executive committee were also nominated initially.
Bilal Khan Pasha, director general trade organisation (DGTO), a regulator of trade organisations, handed over the licence to office-bearers of Gujrat women CCI being led by Saima Sarfraz in the presence of GtCCI President Bao Muneer Ahmed and others. The newly-appointed officials said the women CCI would promote entrepreneurial culture and create equal opportunities for women.
It will be a forum of debate and discussion and a centre for nourishment and development of local women engaging in business activities of any kind, they said and added that linkages and connections with the major stakeholders like government and its institutions is also an important feature.
Ahmed Hassan Mattu, an executive committee member of GtCCI, said in a region which has been known for not encouraging the women, and the culture halts them from involving in economic activities, this organisation will surely boost the women youth to come and utilise their talent and skills for uplifting the society.
He said initially the offices of Gujrat Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GtWCCI), have been set up at the upper floor of the building of GtCCI along the main GT Road.
