ISLAMABAD, JUN 18: Pakistan Railways has announced a hike in fares for both express passenger and freight trains, citing the recent surge in diesel prices as the primary reason behind the decision.
According to an official notification issued by the Railways Department, the fares of express trains and saloons will increase by 3%, while the charges for freight trains will see a 4% rise. The new fare structure will come into effect starting June 20, 2025.
A spokesperson for Pakistan Railways stated that the fare adjustment was essential to balance operational costs after a significant rise in fuel prices. “The decision has been made in light of the increasing diesel rates, which have severely impacted the department’s operating expenses,” the official said.
The updated fares will be applicable across all express trains and cargo services operating throughout the country.
