Pakistan to reshuffle its key diplomats abroad

ISLAMABAD, JUN 25: Pakistan has decided to reshuffle several key ambassadorial posts in its missions abroad, sources within the Foreign Office revealed on Wednesday.

According to the sources, a new ambassador is expected to be appointed to Russia, with Pakistan’s current envoy to Ireland, Ayesha Farooqi, being considered for the Moscow posting. Meanwhile, Additional Secretary for the Americas, Maryam Aftab, is likely to be assigned as Pakistan’s envoy to Ireland.

The reshuffle may also see Director General Middle East, Altamash Wazir Khan, appointed as ambassador to Kyrgyzstan. Additionally, Irfan Shaukat is set to become the High Commissioner to Australia, while Ilyas Nizami is being considered for the ambassadorial role in Romania.

Sources also disclosed that Tariq Kareem is being proposed as the next ambassador to Myanmar. The current envoy to Myanmar, Imran Haider, has already been designated for a new assignment in Bangladesh.

In other expected appointments, Shah Faisal Kakar is being sent to Niger as ambassador, and Mustafa Rabbani will assume charge as Consul General in Jeddah. Furthermore, Director General Europe, Shehbaz Hussain Khokhar, is likely to be posted as Consul General in Montreal, Canada.

The Foreign Office is expected to officially announce the new postings soon.
