RIYADH, Jun 26 (QNA/APP/DNA):Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jassim Mohammed Al Budaiwi has affirmed that the GCC countries are keen to enhance their international presence and showcase their achievements in economic and financial development by participating in joint meetings and GCC economic events to be held on the sidelines of the Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank (WB).

He also emphasized expanding the strategic partnerships with international financial institutions, thus supporting reform and sustainable growth in the region.

This came during Al Budaiwi’s meeting via videoconference Wednesday with Director of the Middle East and Central Asia Department at the IMF, Jihad Azour, and the relevant team.

The Secretary General praised the role of the IMF in strengthening strategic partnership with the GCC countries, highlighting the global challenges facing the region, including inflationary pressures and oil price volatility.

The meeting also discussed preparations for the joint meeting between the GCC finance ministers and central bank governors with the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), scheduled for October, on the sidelines of the upcoming Financial and Economic Cooperation Committee meeting.

The meeting also discussed the upcoming meeting between the GCC finance ministers and central bank governors with the Central Asian and Caucasian countries.

The meeting also discussed the GCC event to be held on the sidelines of the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank (WB) in October in Washington, DC, and a number of economic topics related to enhancing cooperation between the two sides.

Al Budaiwi noted that the success of the economic event held by the GCC at the World Bank (WB) last year contributed to further preparations for the upcoming Gulf economic event, which the GCC will organize with the International Monetary Fund next October (IMF). This event will provide an important platform for promoting dialogue on several topics related to the economies of the GCC countries.

It also represents an opportunity to exchange experiences and learn about best practices in the GCC economic and investment aspects, in addition to presenting the many distinguished success stories in the economies of the GCC countries.
