Shusha, 3 July 2025 – Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Shusha, Azerbaijan, on a two-day official visit to attend the 17th Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO). Upon landing at Fuzuli International Airport, he was warmly received by Azerbaijan’s Minister for Culture, Adil Karimli.
The ECO Summit, themed “Strengthening Regional Connectivity for Sustainable Development,” will bring together leaders from member states to discuss trade, infrastructure, and economic collaboration. PM Sharif is expected to highlight Pakistan’s commitment to regional integration and propose enhanced cooperation in energy, transport, and digital economies.
During his visit, the Prime Minister will hold bilateral meetings with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and other leaders to boost trade and cultural ties. Shusha, a symbol of Azerbaijan’s cultural heritage, was chosen as the summit venue to showcase its post-conflict revival.
Pakistan and Azerbaijan enjoy strong diplomatic relations, and this visit aims to further deepen strategic and economic partnerships. PM Sharif’s participation underscores Pakistan’s active role in regional economic initiatives.
The ECO, comprising 10 member states, promotes development and prosperity across Asia and Eurasia. The summit’s outcomes are expected to advance regional connectivity and economic growth.
