ATTOCK, /DNA/ – The increase in the prices of petrol, gas, electricity, and sugar is a cruel step. The poor are already facing numerous challenges—this oppression must be stopped. In his press statement, former candidate for PP-3 and Ameer (leader) of Jamaat-e-Islami, Tehsil Attock, Mian Muhammad Junaid said that business activity across the country is in a terrible state. Due to flawed government policies, foreign investment is almost non-existent.
The extravagance of the government, its reckless spending, and the trend of favoring the elite have made life miserable for the poor. The so-called unique method of running the country by imposing excessive taxes on electricity, gas, petrol, and diesel has become a torment for the people.
Despite significant decreases in petrol and diesel prices worldwide, the continued price hikes in Pakistan are shameful. Sugar was first exported and now is being imported, causing its prices to skyrocket. If there wasn’t enough sugar available to meet local demand, then why was it allowed to be exported? Was this all a game to benefit the sugar mafia? Sugar mill owners are in the government and are designing policies to rob the people for their own benefit. Meanwhile, sugarcane farmers are dying of hunger, and the sugar mafia has already made billions through this cycle of export and import.
In Attock, corruption is rampant. Over 1.25 billion rupees in financial irregularities have occurred in the Agriculture University. Jamaat-e-Islami has repeatedly demanded an investigation, but the administration remains unmoved.
After much delay, admission announcements have finally been made. We demand that a 50% quota be reserved for local students of Attock. The shortage of staff at the District Headquarters Hospital must be addressed immediately. Furthermore, the failure to make the General Hospital operational remains a question mark and is a cause of public frustration. It must be made functional as soon as possible so that the people of the area can have access to better medical facilities.
