Bureau Report
FAISALABAD: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Faisalabad has sentenced several prominent Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders to ten years in prison for their involvement in the May 9 riots. The verdict was handed down in a case related to the attack on the residence of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) senior leader, Rana Sanaullah.
Among those convicted are PTI leaders Omar Ayub, Shibli Faraz, and Zartaj Gul. The court’s decision is the latest in a series of legal actions against the party’s leadership and workers in connection with the widespread violence that erupted across the country following the arrest of PTI Chairman, Imran Khan, in May 2023.
This is not the first time that PTI workers have been convicted for their role in the May 9 incidents. Throughout the past year, numerous individuals associated with the party have been sentenced by both civil and military courts on charges ranging from vandalism to inciting violence and attacking state installations. The sentences, which have been widely condemned by the PTI as politically motivated, mark a continued legal crackdown on the party’s activities and leadership.ATC Faisalabad sentences as many as 75 accused out of total 109 individuals
