Zambia pipeline reforms end monopoly, cut fuel costs by 33%

LUSAKA, AUG 25: Opening the TAZAMA pipeline to multiple suppliers has broken Agro-Fuel’s dominance, lowering costs and setting the stage for Hichilema’s re-election in 2026.

The deregulation of a crucial Tanzania Zambia Mafuta (TAZAMA) pipeline, that hauls over 80% of Zambia’s fuel requirements into the country, has triggered a dramatic drop in pump prices, a move expected to provide respite to consumers and boost President Hakainde Hichilema’s chances at the polls next year.
