SHC dismisses petition on Justice Tariq Mahmood’s degree

KARACHI, SEPT 26 – The Sindh High Court (SHC) has issued a written ruling on petition concerning the degree of Justice Tariq Mahmood Jahangiri of the Islamabad High Court.

According to details, a constitutional bench of the Sindh High Court, chaired by Justice K. K. Agha, dismissed all petitions due to non-compliance. The decision said that the petitioners’ lawyers rejected arguments on the petition’s admissibility and left the courtroom during the hearing.

Meanwhile, the University of Karachi has cancelled Tariq Mahmood’s LLB enrolment.

Justice K. K. Agha observed that the petitioner and his legal team deliberately refused to continue the case and exited the court, causing disruption to proceedings through wilful disinterest. The court underlined that higher courts possess the authority to dismiss petitions for non-compliance and will manage proceedings independently, without allowing lawyers to dictate the process.

Separately, the University of Karachi announced the cancellation of Tariq Mahmood’s LLB enrolment. The university found him guilty of using unlawful means and imposed a three-year ban on admission to any university or college. Furthermore, he is barred from sitting any university degree examinations during this period.

The university also clarified that Tariq Mahmood was never enrolled as a student at Islamia Law College Karachi. The Assistant Registrar Settlement officially cancelled his LLB enrolment number.
