OTTAWA, OCT 3: The countdown to the FIFA World Cup 26 has reached a major milestone with the official unveiling of Trionda, the tournament’s match ball created by Adidas.
Meaning “three waves” in Spanish, the ball pays tribute to the unprecedented union of three host nations — Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
Ball symbolises unity and innovation
The TRIONDA design embodies the spirit of the 2026 FIFA World Cup™, which will be jointly hosted for the first time in football history. Its red, green, and blue colour palette reflects the flags of the host countries, while gold detailing honors the iconic FIFA World Cup Trophy.
The ball also carries national symbols: a maple leaf for Canada, an eagle for Mexico, and a star for the United States. A new four-panel construction forms a triangular center, symbolizing the unity of the three hosts.
Advanced performance features
Beyond its striking look, TRIONDA introduces cutting-edge performance technology. The four-panel structure with deep seams ensures optimal flight stability by creating even air drag, while embossed icons—visible only up close—improve grip in wet or humid conditions.
For the second consecutive tournament, the ball integrates connected ball technology, featuring a 500Hz motion sensor chip. This provides precise real-time movement data to the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system, enhancing decisions on offsides and other critical moments.
Building on Landmark FIFA 26 Events
The launch follows a series of key announcements for FIFA World Cup 26™, including:
The unveiling of the tournament’s official mascots.
FIFA’s pledge to donate USD 1 to the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund for every ticket sold.
Record-breaking ticket interest, with over 4.5 million fans from 216 countries and territories entering the Visa Presale Draw.
Reactions from FIFA Leadership
“The Official Match Ball for the FIFA World Cup 26 is here and it’s a beauty!” said FIFA President Gianni Infantino at the launch. “adidas have created another iconic FIFA World Cup ball, with the design embodying the unity and passion of Canada, Mexico, and the United States. I can’t wait to see this ball hit the back of the net. The countdown to the greatest FIFA World Cup ever is on—and the ball is rolling!”
Looking Ahead to the World’s Biggest Tournament
The arrival of TRIONDA fuels excitement ahead of the 23rd edition of FIFA’s flagship tournament. Upcoming international match windows in October and November will see more nations secure their berths, before the Final Draw takes place in Washington DC on 5 December 2025.
With TRIONDA now officially launched, the stage is set for a World Cup that promises to be bigger, bolder, and more united than ever before.
