T20 World Cup: Salman Ali Agha vows to learn from Asia Cup mistakes

RAWALPINDI, OCT 27: Pakistan’s T20 captain Salman Ali Agha and South African skipper Donovan Ferreira addressed separate press conferences in Rawalpindi on Monday ahead of the much-anticipated Pink T20 series between the two sides.

Both captains spoke about team strategies, performance goals, and preparations for the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Focused on improvement, team unity
Speaking to the media, Pakistan Captain Salman Ali Agha expressed his excitement for the Pink T20 match, saying the team was looking forward to delivering strong performances.

“We are very excited for the Pink T20,” he said, adding that every player and selector has their own opinion when it comes to team selection, but the ultimate focus remains on team success.

Salman acknowledged that his performance in the last two series was not satisfactory, but said he is determined to contribute to team victories moving forward.

“My performance was not good in the last two series, but I try to help the team win,” he remarked.

Strategy to remain consistent till T20 World Cup
The Pakistan captain confirmed that the team’s strategy and playing approach will remain consistent until the T20 World Cup. “We try not to repeat mistakes. The strategy will remain the same until the T20 World Cup,” Salman stated.

He also highlighted areas where the team needs improvement, especially in bowling during the closing overs and batting consistency. “Bowling needs to improve in the closing overs, and we also have to work on the batting department,” he said.

Praise for teammates, individual approach
Salman praised star batter Babar Azam, calling him a world-class player whose inclusion will strengthen the side. “Babar Azam is a world-class player; his arrival will be beneficial,” he said.

The skipper also spoke highly of Usman Khan, saying the batsman performs well against spinners in the middle overs. “Usman Khan bats well against spinners in the middle overs,” he added.

On his leadership style, Salman said he makes on-field decisions independently, depending on the game situation. “I make all the decisions myself on the ground. I bowl where it is needed,” he said confidently.

Winning start key for South Africa
Meanwhile, South African T20 captain Donovan Ferreira addressed a separate press conference, emphasizing the importance of the series ahead of the T20 World Cup.

“The T20 series against Pakistan is important because the World Cup is near,” Ferreira said. He praised his team’s recent performances in the T20 format. “South Africa has played good cricket recently in T20Is. We have talented batsmen and bowlers,” he added.

Focus on conditions, first-match momentum
Ferreira said he had not yet inspected the Rawalpindi pitch, as he did not attend the practice session, but was confident his team would adapt quickly. “I haven’t seen the pitch yet because I didn’t come to practice. After the first couple of balls, we’ll know what the pitch is like,” he said.

The South African captain stressed the importance of starting the series on a positive note. “We will play to win whatever match we play. If we win the first T20I, we will get a good start in the series,” Ferreira concluded.
