Governor inaugurates passport office in Hazro

Committee formed to probe issuance of fake passports

ATTOCK, Nov 10 (APP/DNA): Governor, Punjab, Sardar Salim Haider Khan on Monday inaugurated the passport office in Hazro town and called for national consensus in support of Pakistan’s armed forces as the defense institutions were the backbone of national security and dignity.

Speaking to media persons during the inauguration ceremony, the governor said the demand for a permanent passport facility in Hazro had been longstanding, as a large number of residents of the tehsil were residing and working abroad.

He thanked Interior Minister, Mohsin Naqvi for approving and facilitating the establishment of the office.

“Work on issuing passports has started from today. This is a gift from the Pakistan Peoples Party to the people of Hazro,” he added.

Governor Salim Haider said that PPP had always stood with the 1973 Constitution and emphasized that constitutional reforms were necessary for the country’s future and institutional strengthening.

He said the party supported the government on three specific constitutional clauses under consideration.

The governor said the entire nation stood united behind the Armed Forces of Pakistan and would not allow attempts to weaken defence institutions.

“Our defence will remain strong only when our forces remain strong,” he stated.

 Pakistan had faced India in war with courage and pride and would continue to protect national sovereignty and honour, he added.

Responding to a question  regarding Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the governor said the JUI-F chief had recently met President Asif Ali Zardari and Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari regarding constitutional amendments,and his formal response on the subject would come within the next few days.

The Governor further said that deprivation in backward regions would be addressed through provision of essential services  adding “We have launched electric buses in Fateh Jang, and soon facilities at local hospitals will also be upgraded.”
