ISLAMABAD, NOV 12: /DNA/ – Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar presided over the second day of the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference (ISC) in Islamabad on Wednesday, using the platform to call for a revitalized and inclusive multilateral system to address pressing global challenges.
Chairing the General Debate on the theme “Peace, Security and Development through Multilateralism,” the Deputy Prime Minister underscored the critical importance of such forums in fostering international dialogue and cooperation.
“In the face of daunting global challenges—from geopolitical rivalries and economic disparities to the climate crisis, terrorism, and persistent inequalities—forums like the ISC are vital,” Dar stated in his address.
He emphasized that the path forward lies in reinvigorating multilateralism by making it more inclusive and representative of the contemporary world, ensuring it operates for the benefit of all nations, not just a select few.
At the outset of the session, the DPM/FM extended a warm welcome to the international delegates and expressed his appreciation to Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani and the Senate of Pakistan for successfully bringing together parliamentarians from across the globe. He highlighted Pakistan’s consistent role as a promoter of constructive dialogue and multilateral engagement on the world stage.
Bilateral Engagement on the Sidelines
On the sidelines of the conference, Deputy Prime Minister Dar held a meeting with Mr. Sergei Aleinik, the Head of the Belarusian Delegation, Member of Parliament, and former Foreign Minister of Belarus.
The DPM/FM appreciated Mr. Aleinik’s participation in the conference and underscored the longstanding friendship and cooperative ties between Pakistan and Belarus. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to further strengthening and deepening these bilateral relations across various fields.
