PESHAWAR: Pakistan reportedly carried out air strikes in Afghanistan’s Khost, Paktika and Kunar provinces, Afghan officials and media sources said on Tuesday.

Afghan government spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid confirmed the strikes, claiming they resulted in civilian casualties, including children. According to reports, the Governor of Khost stated that an Afghan national’s home in Moghalki village, Gorbaz District, was targeted, killing nine children and a woman.

Mujahid did not comment on the official reaction of the Afghan government. However, Afghan sources said that the Taliban leadership is currently discussing the situation and may issue a formal statement later.

Pakistan has not released any statement regarding the reported air operations.

Details of the strikes in Paktika and Kunar provinces remain unclear, with no independent confirmation available so far.

The development comes shortly after the failure of peace talks in Turkey between the two countries. Following the breakdown of the dialogue, Iran has stepped in, making fresh efforts to mediate and promote reconciliation between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
