ISLAMABAD, DEC 21: The government has lifted the ban on drawing pension and salary at the same time, and a notification has been issued. According to details surfaced on Sunday, under the notification, pension and salary may now be drawn together after re-employment following retirement. Office memorandums dated April 22 and June 19, 2025, relating to pension cases, have been withdrawn with immediate effect.
The Ministry of Finance has withdrawn previous instructions on pensions during re-employment. The notification provides for full financial benefits for retired officers taken back into service. The double benefit scheme has been restored. Re-employed retired staff will receive both salary and pension.
Earlier notifications have been cancelled and the previous system has been reinstated. The decision has been taken in view of difficulties arising from a shortage of experienced government officers.
Fresh guidelines on the re-appointment of retired employees will be issued separately. According to Ministry of Finance documents, the federal government’s pension bill in the current financial year has reached Rs1,055 billion. Military pensions stood at Rs742 billion, while pensions for civilian government employees amounted to Rs243 billion.
