Moon of Rajab sighted; first day to fall on Dec 22

ISLAMABAD, DEC 21 – The moon of the Islamic month of Rajab al-Murjab has been sighted, confirming that the first day of Rajab 1447 AH will be observed on Monday, December 22, 2025.

The confirmation came following an announcement by the Chairman of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad. Based on his declaration, the Ministry of Religious Affairs issued a formal notification regarding the beginning of Rajab al-Murjab.

Rajab is one of the four sacred months in Islam and holds significant religious importance for Muslims.

Earlier, the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) had released its forecast for the sighting of the moon marking the start of Rajab al-Murjab 1447 AH.

SUPARCO’s prediction aligned with the official sighting, providing scientific support to the moon observation announced by the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.

Significance of Rajab al-Murjab

Rajab is considered a sacred month in the Islamic calendar and is associated with increased acts of worship, prayer, and reflection. It also marks the lead-up to the holy months of Shaban and Ramazan.

Many Muslims observe voluntary fasts and engage in special prayers during this period.

Birth anniversary of Hazrat Ali (A.S)

According to the lunar calendar, the 13th of Rajab—widely observed as the birth anniversary of Hazrat Ali ibn Abi Talib (A.S)—will fall on Sunday, January 4, 2026.

Hazrat Ali (A.S), the fourth caliph of Islam and the cousin and son-in-law of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), holds a revered position in Islamic history for his leadership, wisdom, and devotion.
