District Emergency Officer (DEO) Engineer Sibghatullah, in the annual report released on Tuesday, said four persons lost their lives due to burn injuries, while 44 sustained serious injuries and 63 received minor burns in the fire-related incidents during the year.

He said the Rescue 1122 firefighters responded promptly and professionally to the reported incidents, successfully containing the fires and preventing them from spreading. “Owing to timely firefighting operations by the Rescue 1122 and the district rescue administration, property worth an estimated Rs2.363 billion was saved from potential damage,” he added.

The DEO said the major causes of fires included short-circuiting, careless use of cigarettes, gas leakages, fires caused by gas cylinders and other factors.

He added that 59 incidents of forest fires were also reported in the district during 2025, which were brought under control in time by the rescue firefighters.
