RCCI urges single-digit policy rate to boost economy

RAWALPINDI, MAR 6 /DNA/ – A delegation of the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI), led by Group Leader Sohail Altaf and President Usman Shaukat, met with the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production, Haroon Akhtar Khan.

During the meeting, RCCI President Usman Shaukat briefed the Special Assistant about the Chamber’s recent trade delegation visit to the United States. He also presented proposals regarding the protection of foreign investment in Pakistan through special arbitration mechanisms and improved security arrangements. In response, Haroon Akhtar Khan stated that the necessary legal provisions have already been incorporated into the forthcoming Industrial Policy, which will be announced soon.

The meeting also discussed the global economic landscape and the prevailing geopolitical tensions, along with Pakistan’s economic policies and the challenges currently being faced by the business community. The RCCI leadership presented several key recommendations to support economic growth and industrial revival.

President Usman Shaukat and Group Leader Sohail Altaf emphasized that in order to ensure that economic benefits reach the grassroots level, the policy rate should be reduced to single digits. They further recommended lowering the corporate tax rate to promote industrial activity and enhance exports.

The RCCI leadership also urged the government to immediately announce a construction package to kick-start industrial activity. They pointed out that more than forty allied industries are directly linked with the construction and real estate sector, providing employment to millions of people across the country.

Matters related to the development of industrial zones, particularly around the Rawalpindi Ring Road, were also discussed during the meeting.

Special Assistant Haroon Akhtar Khan assured the delegation that RCCI’s recommendations regarding the construction package would be incorporated. He also stated that a high-level meeting on the Rawalpindi Ring Road would soon be convened. He appreciated the Chamber’s proposals for industrial development and termed them commendable.
