Multi-Modality approach essential for cancer treatment: Dr Ejaz Masood

MULTAN, Mar 29: Renowned oncologist Dr Ejaz Masood said that a multi-modality approach was essential for effective breast cancer treatment, highlighting both medical and psychological care as key components.

He warned that unscientific advice could harm patients and urged women to undergo screenings for early diagnosis.
Dr Ejaz Masood observed that costly treatment could still be made accessible for underprivileged patients.

He revealed that thousands of patients had received completely free treatment, with over Rs500 million collected and spent on their care. He added that medicines were also provided, while patients bore only minimal costs.


He expressed concern over the increasing use of steroids in food, linking it to rising health issues, and encouraged the consumption of fruits and vegetables for natural vitamins. He also shared establishment of a cancer hospital in Mian Channu and proposed government to set up small cancer units at district levels.


Expert said cancer patients often suffer from depression, emphasizing the importance of psychological support in recovery. Clinical Psychologist Muneeza Manzoor highlighted that a coordinated effort by oncologists, surgeons, physicians, psychologist and other specialists was vital in cancer treatment.


Speakers also acknowledged the role of social workers in facilitating free treatment and medicines for patients. They urged the public not to hesitate in seeking help and to come forward for timely support.


Former MNA Ahmed Hassan Dehar requested experts to organize awareness sessions in rural areas and offered land for establishing a walk-in clinic, calling it a true act of service.


The seminar titled “Healing the Mind and Body” was jointly organized by Pakistan Institute of Living and Learning, Mind Care Centre and Rehabilitation Unit, and Rozan. It was attended by, Senior Manager Meerab Lodhi, and Director Protocol National Assembly Ahsan Abbas and some others.
