Drive to seize stray animals, roaming in city streets, launched in Mirpur AJK

MIRPUR, Apr 2 The City Municipal Corporation has launched an extensive drive to make the city clean of stray animals including the abandoned cattleheads roaming the city streets causing immense troubles for pedestrians besides the traffic hazards, official sources said

The move begun on the special instructions of Mayor of Mirpur Chaudhry Usman Ali Khalid, who ordered Chief Municipal Officer and the Municipal Magistrate to take immediate stringent action against stray animals across the city, the Municipal Corporation sources told APP here late Wednesday.

In response to the orders, the teams of the Municipal Corporation immediately mobilized taking quick actions in different localifies including residential sectors and markets in the city.

The sources said “wherever stray animals are seen, they will be immediately seized and legal action will be taken against their owners. Moreover, the seized animals will also be auctioned under the prescribed legal procedure”.

The sources warned of immediate punitive action in case any animal owner quarrels with the staff or tries to obstruct the proceedings. The move was launched through on the spot action for the better conducive environment for the public, cleanliness of the city, improvement of traffic and public safety, the sources said adding that citizens are requested that there is no need for any obstruction or quarrel in this process, but full cooperation would be necessary to make the drive successful.

Mirpur Municipality has, meanwhile, appealed to the public to immediately report about presence of any stray animals, when found, to 0308-5007900 for timely action. Citizens have been strictly instructed not to leave their animals loose and ensure their complete care, otherwise they may face fines and legal action.

” This action will continue in every nook and corner of the city without discrimination to ensure the betterment of the city and the benefit of the people with due convenient environment for safe daily routine moment in the streets “, the sources added.
