Pakistan leads SCO-RATS meeting on regional terror threats

TASHKENT / ISLAMABAD, APR 3 (DNA) â€” Pakistan, as the current chair of the Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO-RATS), successfully presided over the 45th Council Meeting of SCO-RATS in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. The high-level gathering brought together member states to deliberate on pressing regional security challenges and strengthen counter-terrorism cooperation.

During the meeting, the Council held detailed discussions on matters of mutual interest, finalizing several reporting documents on the activities of SCO-RATS. These documents will be submitted to the Council of Heads of Member States of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization for further consideration.

The Council expressed deep concern over the evolving situation in the Middle East, stressing the need to resolve conflicts through dialogue and mutual respect, in full compliance with international law. Members also voiced serious concern over the ongoing threat posed by terrorist groups operating from Afghan territory, underscoring the urgent need to enhance cooperation and undertake joint efforts to counter this menace.

Since assuming the chairmanship in September 2025, Pakistan has steered SCO-RATS in a professional manner, prioritizing shared objectives and guided by the Shanghai Spirit of mutual trust, equality, and shared responsibility. Under its leadership, Pakistan has hosted multiple events and activities across key domains, including joint information operations, border security, and cyberspace.

The Council agreed that the next SCO-RATS Council Meeting will be held in September 2026 in Pakistan.

As a frontline state in the global fight against terrorism, Pakistan continues to make unparalleled sacrifices to ensure the safety and security of its own people, the region, and beyond. In line with the principles of the SCO, international law, and the United Nations Charter, Pakistan reiterated its commitment to working with international and regional partners to advance collective efforts against terrorism and extremism.
