ISLAMABAD, Apr 13 (DNA): Chairperson of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), Senator Rubina Khalid has called for collective national efforts to eradicate polio, emphasizing that eliminating the disease is a shared responsibility of every citizen.
In her message on the occasion of the ongoing anti-polio campaign, she said that approximately 45 million children under the age of five are being administered polio vaccines across Pakistan.
She highlighted that millions of dedicated polio workers are actively engaged in going door-to-door to ensure that no child is left unvaccinated.
Rubina Khalid termed the outreach achieved during the previous campaign, which covered millions of children, as a significant success.
She urged parents to ensure that their children receive polio drops, warning that even a single unvaccinated child could pose a risk to the entire community.
She stressed that a polio-free society is essential for a healthy Pakistan and reiterated the government’s commitment to bringing polio cases down to zero within the current year.
The chairperson also appreciated the tireless efforts of field workers, noting that steps are being taken to ensure their safety and facilitate their work.
She said that the Benazir Income Support Programme platform is being utilized to raise awareness among millions of deserving families about the importance of polio vaccination.
“Let us all play our part in securing a safe future for our children and achieving a polio-free Pakistan,” she concluded.
