RIYADH, MAY 5: Saudi Arabia voiced its concern over the escalation witnessed in the region on Monday after Iranian attacks on the US ships and the UAE, urging restraint and diplomacy.
“The Kingdom is concerned about the current military escalation in the region,” the Saudi Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Riyadh called for backing Pakistan’s mediation efforts and urged restraint to prevent further instability in the region.
The Kingdom also said it was necessary to restore freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz without any restrictions.
The conditions and status of the waterway need to return to what they were before the US-Israeli war on Iran, which started on Feb. 28, the ministry said.
The UAE’s Ministry of Defense said Emirati air defenses intercepted 12 ballistic missiles, three cruise missiles, and four drones launched from Iran on Monday, resulting in three moderate injuries.
