Governor Kundi calls for greater support for special persons, welfare institutions

PESHAWAR, May 15: Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi on Friday stressed the need for collective efforts to support special persons and welfare institutions.

He said this during his visit to Angels Home Welfare Organization here.

The Governor was briefed about different sections of the welfare institution and also met special persons, elderly residents, men and women living at the facility.

Speaking on the occasion, Governor Kundi said caring for elderly people, men and women was the finest example of service to humanity. He said around 1.7 million special persons were living in the province but the facilities available for them were insufficient.

He said both the federal and provincial governments should extend support to such welfare organizations and added that he would also play his role in assisting them. “Humanitarian service should rise above politics,” he remarked.

The Governor also emphasized the need to increase the job quota for differently-abled persons from two percent to five percent.

Talking to media persons, Governor Kundi said the issue of closure of CNG stations had been taken up with the federal government. He alleged that the federation was treating Khyber Pakhtunkhwa unfairly in matters related to gas supply.

He said the High Court had ordered that CNG stations should not be closed, however, the provincial government had failed to implement the decision.

The Governor said the wheat issue in the province was also serious and alleged that wheat transportation was being stopped. He said if the people had given mandate to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, they should not be punished through suspension of wheat supply.

Governor Kundi urged the federal government to sit with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa authorities and play its role in resolving the issues of wheat and gas supply.

Member of the National Assembly Ramesh Kumar Vankwani was also present on the occasion.
