FM in Brussels, presents developments in, around Armenia during pre-, post-parliament-election periods

Yerevan, JUN 15: Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan participated in the discussion in the format of a meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council of foreign ministers of the European Union (EU) member states in Brussels, at the invitation of Kaja Kallas, Vice-President of the European Commission and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.

Kaja Kallas, European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos, s well as foreign ministers and representatives of EU member states attended the working breakfast discussion.

First, EU colleagues congratulated FM Mirzoyan on the democratic parliamentary elections held in Armenia on June 7 and the victory of the ruling Civil Pact party. The support of the EU and member states for the consistent implementation of the strategic agenda of the Armenia-EU partnership and the political commitment to promoting European integration were emphasized.

Mirzoyan presented the developments in and around Armenia during the pre- and post-election periods, stating that with their vote, the citizens of Armenia reaffirmed their will to live in peace and protect independence, sovereignty, the irreversibility of democratic reforms, the chosen path of prosperity, as well as Armenia’s aspirations for European prospects.

The Armenian FM noted that the fact that the first visit after the elections is taking place with the EU in this format for the purpose of discussions aimed at further deepening the Armenia-EU partnership testifies to the existing mutual commitment.

Subsequently, an exchange of views took place on mechanisms and possible actions to increase Armenia-EU trade, increase Armenia’s economic and energy resilience.

Also, FM Mirzoyan highly appreciated the support provided so far by the EU and its member states in the fight against hybrid threats and in the diversification of economic ties. An agreement was reached to continue work in this direction in active cooperation with both EU institutions and individual EU states.
