ISLAMABAD, 29 JULY (DNA) — The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has appointed experienced international player Abu Bakar as the new captain of the Pakistan national hockey team ahead of the country’s upcoming international assignments. The appointment was approved by PHF Adhoc President Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani on the recommendation of the Professional Development Committee, comprising legendary Olympians Islahuddin Siddiqui and Hassan Sardar.
Abu Bakar has earned the captaincy following his consistent performances, exemplary leadership qualities, dedication, and commitment to the national team. The PHF believes his appointment marks the beginning of a new chapter aimed at strengthening Pakistan hockey and building a competitive squad for future international events.
He replaces Ahmad Butt, who led Pakistan with distinction for the past 14 years. The federation paid rich tribute to Ahmad Butt’s outstanding services, leadership, and unwavering commitment to Pakistan hockey, describing his contribution as invaluable. The experienced campaigner will continue to serve the national team as a senior player, providing guidance to the younger members of the squad.
