ISLAMABAD, Aug 7: A significant milestone in Pakistan–Romania cultural diplomacy was achieved today as the Commissioner Karachi, formally handed over the approval for the construction of the Pakistan–Romania Friendship Monument in Karachi to PRBC leadership.
The approval was handed over during a meeting with Mr. Atif Farooqi, Advisor and Chief Operating Officer, Pakistan Romania Business Council (PRBC), and Mr. Sohail Shamim Firpo, Chairman, PRBC.
The initiative follows the approval conveyed by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) for the placement of the monument at the intersection of Dr. Mehmood Hussain Road and Shahrah-e-Faisal, said a press release received here on Friday.
The Pakistan–Romania Friendship Monument is a landmark cultural-diplomacy initiative aimed at commemorating more than six decades of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Romania. It will stand as a lasting symbol of friendship, mutual respect and expanding cooperation in the fields of trade, culture, education, local governance and people-to-people engagement.
The project is the vision of Dr. Dan Stoenescu, Ambassador of Romania to Pakistan, who has consistently encouraged initiatives that strengthen people-to-people contacts and create lasting symbols of friendship between Romania and Pakistan. The monument will reflect this shared commitment to further deepen bilateral relations and cultural understanding.
Atif Farooqi, Advisor and Chief Operating Officer PRBC, stated that as envisioned by the Dr. Dan Stoenescu, Romanian Ambassador, the monument would reflect the strength and continuity of bilateral relations between the two countries. He added that PRBC would work closely with the relevant civic authorities to ensure that the monument’s design, placement and execution appropriately represent the historical and cultural links between Pakistan and Romania.
On behalf of the PRBC leadership, Sohail Shamim Firpo extended sincere appreciation to the Commissioner Karachi Mr. Naqvi for his support and for facilitating this meaningful cultural-diplomacy initiative. He also particularly acknowledged and thank Ms. Iqra Jannat, Assistant Commissioner HQ – Commissioner Karachi office for her valuable coordination, commitment and assistance in bringing the approval process to this important stage.
The PRBC will supervise the construction and future upkeep of the Friendship Monument in coordination with the concerned authorities. The project is expected to contribute to Karachi’s urban identity while creating a visible and enduring expression of Pakistan–Romania relations.
The KMC has further indicated that the proposal to name a road “Constanta Avenue” or “Constanta Road” will be placed before the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation Council in its forthcoming session for consideration and approval.
