ISLAMABAD, Aug 9: Chairman of the Pakistan Ulema Council Allama Tahir Ashrafi has said the primary objective of the defence agreement between Pakistan, Türkiye and Saudi Arabia is to strengthen the defence and stability of the three countries and promote mutual cooperation.
He said the agreement clearly stipulated that an attack on any one of the three countries would be considered an attack on all three.
Speaking on behalf of the International Council for the Honour of the Two Holy Mosques, Allama Ashrafi said that, in view of the prevailing global situation, Saudi Arabia had demonstrated remarkable patience and restraint.
He said Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir had, from the outset, worked to prevent the US-Israel conflict with Iran from turning into a broader confrontation involving the Arab world, the Muslim Ummah and Iran.
He said Israel had sought to provoke a confrontation between the Arab countries and Iran, but the three leaders had played an important role in preventing such a conflict.
Allama Ashrafi described their efforts to prevent the escalation of the conflict as a great achievement, saying the leadership of the three countries had demonstrated responsibility and wisdom in the face of a challenging regional situation.
