BISHKEK, SEP 1 – Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, held a high-level meeting with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres today on the margins of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Heads of State Summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
During the meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister commended the Secretary-General’s leadership in strengthening the UN’s role in addressing pressing global challenges and advancing effective multilateralism. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to the United Nations and highlighted the close, longstanding partnership between Pakistan and the UN across various domains, including peacekeeping, development, and humanitarian assistance.
The discussions encompassed key regional developments, preparations for the upcoming session of the UN General Assembly, and the ongoing work of the UN Security Council. Both sides exchanged views on issues of mutual interest, reflecting Pakistan’s active engagement in global diplomatic efforts.
Secretary-General Guterres appreciated Pakistan’s constructive and principled role in multilateral diplomacy and acknowledged its significant contributions to fostering regional peace and stability.
In a notable development, Senator Dar extended a formal invitation to the Secretary-General to visit Pakistan. The invitation was graciously accepted by Mr. Guterres. The Foreign Office of Pakistan will now coordinate closely with the UN Secretariat to finalize the dates for the official visit.
The meeting underscored the mutual commitment of Pakistan and the UN to promoting peace, security, and sustainable development at the global level.
