RAWALPINDI, SEP 9: Security forces have eliminated at least 11 India-sponsored militants in separate intelligence-based operations in Kharan and Washuk districts of Balochistan, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Wednesday.
The operations were conducted on September 6 and 7 following reports of the presence of terrorists belonging to the Indian proxy, Fitna al-Hindustan, the military’s media wing added.
On September 6, terrorists attempted to establish a roadblock in Kharan and disrupt local traffic, the statement said, adding that security forces promptly intercepted and engaged the terrorists, killing eight of them.
In a separate operation in Washuk district on September 7, security forces targeted a reported terrorist hideout.
“Own troops effectively busted the hideout and, following an intense exchange of fire, killed three more terrorists,” the military said.
The security forces also recovered 2.9 tonnes of explosives being used to prepare improvised explosive devices (IEDs), it added.
Sanitisation operations were under way to eliminate any other India-sponsored terrorists who may be present in the area, the ISPR said.
The military said the ongoing counter-terrorism campaign under the “Azm-e-Istehkam” initiative, approved by the Federal Apex Committee on the National Action Plan, would continue at full pace.
The campaign aims to wipe out the menace of foreign-sponsored-and-supported terrorism from the country.
Pakistan witnessed a surge in terror activities, particularly in its KP and Balochistan provinces, since 2021, when the Afghan Taliban came into power.
According to a report by the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS), the two provinces remained the country’s main hotspots for violence during the second quarter of 2026, with KP emerging as the worst-affected region.
The report stated that KP and Balochistan together accounted for nearly 96% of all violence-related fatalities recorded during the quarter. Of the total deaths, more than 61% (475) were reported in KP, while Balochistan accounted for 34% (265).
KP also recorded the highest number of violent incidents, with 151 cases, representing 57% of the nationwide total. Balochistan followed with 94 incidents, or 35%, underscoring the concentration of militant activity in the two provinces.
