Chinese nationals get bail

ISLAMABAD, 20 SEP (DNA) — The Islamabad High Court has approved the bail pleas of ten Chinese nationals arrested in a call centre cybercrime case. Justice Shahrukh Arjumand issued a five-page written verdict, directing each suspect to submit surety bonds worth Rs 500,000 and to appear before the trial court on every hearing date.

According to the court, the suspects cannot leave Pakistan without prior permission from the trial court.  The verdict stated that no specific role or clear act was attributed to the suspects.

No specific electronic or independent evidence linking the suspects to the alleged electronic fraud or transmission of obscene material was presented either.  — DNA
