ISLAMABAD/Bucharest: Romania and Pakistan are looking to transform their strong diplomatic relations into tangible economic partnerships, according to Romanian Ambassador to Pakistan Dan Stoenescu during the Romania-Pakistan Business Forum held in Bucharest.
Addressing business leaders and stakeholders from both countries, Stoenescu emphasized the need to convert economic potential into concrete results through increased trade, investment, and business cooperation.
“Today is not simply about another business forum. It is about turning a strong diplomatic relationship into an economic partnership that delivers real results,” he said.
The forum brought together representatives from the Embassy of Romania in Islamabad, the Pakistan-Romania Business Council, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania (CCIR), and a delegation of Pakistani business leaders visiting Romania.
Stoenescu noted that political relations between Romania and Pakistan remain strong, but economic cooperation has yet to fully reflect the opportunities available. He highlighted the complementary nature of both economies and called on businesses to take a leading role in strengthening commercial ties.
Romania, he said, offers Pakistani companies access to the European Union’s Single Market and opportunities across sectors including agriculture, information technology, energy, manufacturing, education, and logistics.
A key development supporting closer economic cooperation is the recently established framework for collaboration between Karachi Port and the Port of Constanța. Stoenescu expressed hope that the agreement would lead to increased shipping activity, trade flows, and investment between the Arabian Sea and the Black Sea regions.
The Pakistani business delegation is scheduled to visit several Romanian cities, including Bucharest, Ploiești, Constanța, and Brașov, where members will meet companies, chambers of commerce, universities, and public institutions.
The ambassador said the success of the mission should be measured not by the number of meetings or memoranda signed, but by tangible outcomes such as contracts, investments, joint ventures, and growing exports.
Concluding his remarks, Stoenescu delivered a message to the business communities of both countries: “Romania is open for Pakistani business. Pakistan offers real opportunities for Romanian companies. The doors are open. Now it is time to walk through them.”
The Romania-Pakistan Business Forum is expected to serve as a platform for expanding economic engagement and fostering long-term commercial partnerships between the two countries.
