ISLAMABAD, Oct 21 (DNA):A second meeting of the committee constituted by the Prime Minister to introduce reforms at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) was held to review measures aimed at improving the hospital’s administration, healthcare delivery and governance system.
Federal Minister for National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination Syed Mustafa Kamal, Federal Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazeer Tarar, Federal Secretary Health Momin Ali Agha and other senior officials attended the meeting.
The committee reviewed ongoing initiatives and examined the legal and administrative framework required to improve the management and governance of the country’s major public sector hospital.
It recommended placing PIMS under a Board of Governors, appointing a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) through an open-market recruitment process and fixing a three-year tenure for board members.
Following the Prime Minister’s in-principle approval, a draft legislation will be prepared to establish the proposed governance framework for PIMS.
